Painter of soul and memories
Mihal Bireš was the pioneer of Kovačicas Naïve art. His paintings were not only displays but also sincere memories of a world that he had seen. His world of colour was simple, but deeply rooted in everyday life and people, which formed the core of Kovačica. Mihal dedicated a large part of his creationism to portraits of Slovak villagers whose lives were deeply connected with the land, work, and effort as a way of being. Winter, his beloved period for painting, freed from the outside world when he was looking for the strength of colour and form in a simple environment, the paintings of Bireš were more than just portraits; they transmitted the soul of everyday moments that carried eternal strength.
