The manuscript of poetic tradition
The first woman of naïve art, Kovačica, Alžbeta Cižikova, not only painted various landscapes but also whole worlds. Every brush stroke was done with precision and meticulousness. Like a whisper of tradition covered in colours. In her work, the sun sometimes a star and sometimes a sunflower illuminated the tales of people captured in their moments of peace. As a student of Martin Jonas, she painted with her soul, connecting the past with the present. The spirit of Slovak Banat tradition could be felt within her work, transforming it into a story that has not only artistic but also ethnological value. The paintings of Alžbeta are not just art – they are an ode to life.
